ENCOUNTER ~ REAL. RELEVANT. CHURCH

Deer Chili

A member (member A) in very good standing at our church gave me some fresh killed deer meat a week or so ago. Another member (member B), also in excellent standing, had killed said animal  in Member A’s property. Member B is a true hunter, choosing to kill only with bow and arrow as his killing instrument of choice. Member A has taken to his new friend, Member B, and the meat offered him from the kill off of his property. Member A and B, with their friendship strengthened by the death of innocent animals (at least in part), have hooked me in to their lucrative slaughter business by affording me meat as tasty as any I have ever eaten.  Member B… kill as often as the Good Lord allows. Member A…. God bless you, and keep delivering meat my way as your pastor and fellow food lover.  The chili I have made from you guys’ bounty will be considered in culinary history as the standard and benchmark of all chili… for all time… for  the whole human race.

  1. If the members would have not been in ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ standing; as you say, would you have taken of their bounty? Why is the bow/arrow obligatory for a ‘true hunter’? I would think that taking a deer with a pistol, shotgun or muzzleloader would also be a good killing instrument and not be the only marker of a true hunter. A ‘true hunter’, in my opinion, is one who spends hours in the woods before season, scouting to identify bedding and feeding areas, installing tree stands or ground blinds in remote locations to catch a glimpse of that all elusive whitetail and who gets excited when he/she finds a scrape or a rub or a shed from that big buck. Oh yes, the ‘true hunter’ is more than a weekend warrior and truly enjoys this incredible animal that God has created. Let not the killing instrument be the sign of a true hunter; but only the tool used by one who truly is in awe of creation and feels the sun on their face, smells the wet leaves on the ground, and is not happy with just a shot; but a kill shot so tasting that chili is a certainty…

  2. It was very delicioso !!!!

  3. my friend, everyone in our church is “in good standing”, and standing or stature have nothing to do with the relationship I have with them. Deer meat is a huge side note. Having said that, please note that my comments about the bow are made out of admiration and sincere gratitude and are not a commentary on other hunters and their weapon of choice. I am just grateful for the people whom the Lord has brought to our small church, and in awe of their gifts and talents. Also so thankful for the bounty that our Lord has provided for man. Out of His bounty, and a friends gift, I was privileged to prepare a good chili and bless my family with that meal. Indeed I am a blessed man.
